| A safe place to park your files...... |
- What is FileBuffer?
- FileBuffer is a unique secure Internet file server. You can safely store your files in FileBuffer
and access them from anywhere, at work, at home or on travel...
Files placed in FileBuffer can NOT be opened by ANYBODY except yourself or someone you
authorize to share with.
FileBuffer is
a place where you can safely exchange files with your friends, clients, co-workers, etc..
- Who can use FileBuffer?
- Whoever often send files via the Internet or whoever need to share files with others can
benefit from using this service. The following are just some of the examples.
- If you are a transcriptionist or running a transcripting service, you can use this HIPAA-compliant and easy-to-use
service to exchange files with your partners without having to pay both the software and hosting fees.
- If you have unfinished work or project at work or school that you want to continue at home or
library, you can use FileBuffer to transfer files between those places as you normally would
do with a jump drive.
- If you are planning on travel or giving an important presentation, you can use FileBuffer
to make your files available from wherever you go.
- How do I use FileBuffer?
- No software to purchase or install. No setup is needed.
All you need to do is download and save FileBuffer
somewhere (e.g. a folder on the desktop or even a floppy disk), then double click it to run.
You don't have to be an expert to use FileBuffer (see User Guide for more information).
A unique feature of FileBuffer is that you don't need to install the software
in the computer or need administrator access to run it.
If you don't need to use FileBuffer in a computer any more, just delete the whole folder.
This will leave the computer totally clean.
- How secure is it?
- Most secure file transfer software transfers files securely to the server but leave the
files on the server unprotected. Unless you own the server, this is not considered to be secure
because anyone who have proper access to the server (e.g. server administrators) will be able
to open your files. This is similar to delivering a box of treasure securely but put it on the
sidewalk of a street.
FileBuffer uses the
Rijndael encryption technology (the strongest encryption so far)
to encrypt your files before they are transferred, and the files stay encrypted on the server.
NOBODY (including the server administrators) can open the files without knowing the key
you use to encrypt the files. In other words, your files are protected not only during transmission
but also on the server.
- Why don't you use browsers to upload/download files?
-
As stated above, files transferred using browsers are not protected on the server. Plus, if you
have many files and folders, uploading and downloading them can be very inefficient and tedious.
FileBuffer is a specially customized version of the powerful and popular file
transfer tool xTyFTP. It
has all the functions of xTyFTP. These functions make file copying between
your computer and FileBuffer secure and easy. The following are some of these functions:
- Transfer both files and folders you choose.
- Transfer multiple files simutaneously (multi-thread). This significantly speeds up the transmission.
- Create tasks to transfer files automatically at specified times with email notification.
- Create shortcuts to transfer files with a click.
- Options to delete files and folders after they are uploaded or downloaded.
- Options to backup files and folders before uploading or downloading.
